Get to know one of our legendary performers! Steve Keith started doing gigs at nineteen; playing blues banjo for a year with the legendary Babe Stovall (AKA MR. BOJANGLES ) in New Orleans! Next, he joined The Last Mile Ramblers, playing at honkytonks throughout the Southwest. Then, with Jerry Jeff Walker and the Lost Gonzo Band of Austin, Texas in 1976, playing Outlaw Country one-nighters including WILLIE NELSON’S 4th of July Picnics where Steve played fiddle with Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Leon Russell, and Jimmy Buffett.
Steve also played and recorded with Guy Clarke and Jerry Jeff Walker, joining David Bromberg’s road band for a tour. Steve also played bluegrass banjo with the great Byron Berline on fiddle in the Mason Williams Concert for Bluegrass Band and Symphony Orchestra, which toured the USA.
“Some of the best that came out of those times was hanging out with such great songwriters as Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clarke, Jerry Jeff,Billy Joe Shaver, and many others, staying up all night, drinking beers, taking turns playing the songs nobody heard yet”.
